Chi Restaurant Norwood
Chi Restaurant arose from the deconstruction and glam makeover of the Oriental Hotel. Its sleek, earthy decor puts you in the mood to chill and enjoy a stylish meal. Groom your tastebuds with a pre-meal drink in the main bar - pick your fancy from the illuminated shelves and sip it outside on the deck. A stone's throw away is a most aesthetically unpleasant intersection, so focus on the pebbles in the water feature border instead. This aspect of design appeases both patrons and gods of Feng Shui. Flowing water helps disperse the negative energies coming from the nearby cars while flowing bubbles help to energise your appetite for the surprises of Chi's menu.
And surprise it does, with eclectic yet harmoniously balanced meals. Chinese red duck is half a bird oven-roasted with five spices nesting on ginger wine noodles. Char siu pork belly lazes on roast pear, sweet potato and water chestnut salad. A sirloin of kangaroo gets a wasabi crust, pumpkin salsa and chilli relish. Nonya barramundi has fleshy pieces in a rich red curry with baby spinach. Polish off the entire 900g porterhouse steak and you will find it hard to moo-ve towards desserts, although hot butterscotch sauce trickling down the fried ice cream will test you.
