Bronte Restaurants

Bronte's curve of white sand and pounding surf provides Bronte Road cafes a glitzy aspect to match the best of Sydney's glamorous views. The eye-candy does not end with the scenery however, with the compulsory smattering of lithe backpackers supplemented by lunching yummy mummies and pec-flexing dads.

For those wanting more than fish 'n' chips, the pickings were traditionally slim. However, the Bronte restaurants along the beachfront are slowly picking themselves up by their culinary bootstraps. After dark, hike up the hill to MacPherson Street's unexpectedly impressive eateries. Settled snugly into a corner is the well-known Wet Paint, while across the road, La Locanda offers rustic Italian fare. Those wishing to stay within the salt spray might get lucky with live music featuring on Sunday nights at Caffe Salina and some of the other Bronte restaurants.

Caffe Salina
Featured Restaurant
Caffe Salina Bronte The block of shops beachside on Bronte Road is literally wall-to-wall cafes these days and it's hard to distinguish between them. Salina stands out from the rest, from the friendly casualness of its young owners to the inventive simplicity and flavours of the food. Its point of differentiation is the re-workings of Sicilian dishes. Check out the biggest meatballs in town: excellent-quality, just-cooked mince holding the surprise of a pea and mozzarella stuffing that's saturated in cooking juices till the whole is juicilicious. A lighter favourite with regulars are the corn fritters, made with freshly shucked corn off the cob and Spanish and white onions, served with bacon or smoked salmon. Eat in, eat out on the sidewalk, or hedge your bets and sit at the bench looking out across the sweep of park to the beach. Run by a young married couple, Paul and Maree, the atmosphere is light and casual with idiosyncratic touches, such as the '60s kitsch of the decorated table water, the contrasting silver and peppermint green interior - and an annual Anti-Valentine's Day Ball with entry restricted to love tragics. more
