Bondi Beach Restaurants

There used to be slim pickings among Bondi restaurants, but that's been changing quickly of late. Ever since Icebergs Dining Room & Bar took over the view above Bondi's iconic saltwater pool, Bondi suddenly had an extra touch of class - although, admittedly there's still room for improvement, as the wealth of mediocre and overpriced tourist traps along Campbell Parade will attest. But start heading up the south or north inclines of this main street, and there are some great finds, from Hugo's to the consistently superb Sean's Panaroma (possibly Sydney's most mispronounced and misspelled restaurant).

Bondi Beach is rife with cafes, with the major players occupying Hall Street and North Bondi. If the quality doesn't rival the barista-craziness of Surry Hills, it certainly matches in quantity and in the bean-crazed enthusiasm of its casual-chic patrons. It takes just one look around to realise everyone looks oh-so-fabulous in thongs, bikinis and boardies. Then there's the backpacker-ville contingency, which guarantees a good selection of cheap eats. Check out the Jewish Quarter by the Hall Street roundabout, where you'll find some of Sydney's best Israeli, kosher and Sephardic ('Spanish'/Middle-Eastern Jewish) eateries.
