Where to get a Taste of Sydney in 2010

Do-your-own-degustation is the name of the game at the Taste of Sydney food and wine fest. From March 11-14, 2010, 17 prestigious Sydney restaurants are setting up full kitchens in the Centennial Parklands, and cooking up tapas-style servings of their signature dishes for a fraction of the price. Here's a sneak peek at some of the foodie favourites.

1

Becasse
Sydney
Justin North's modern French fine diner, of two Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide chef's hats, is sure to spin Taste of Sydney punters into a hearty bisque of culinary bliss. North's other restaurant, Etch, is also appearing here, with head chef James Metcalfe bringing his light European touch to the fore.

2

Aria
Sydney
Anyone who watched Masterchef Australia (and let's face it, that's most of us) would remember Matt Moran's jaw-dropping chocolate tart dessert that challenged Poh and Julie in the finale. That's just one example of the way Moran's two-hatted restaurant Aria spellbinds practically anyone with a palate.

3

Guillaume at Bennelong
Sydney
Back for another year, Guillaume Brahimi's two-hatted Sydney Opera House restaurant is renowned for its brilliant degustations, making it a clear candidate for the bit-of-this-and-bit-of-that style of dining at Taste of Sydney.

4

Longrain
Surry Hills
Long reigning as one of the premier modern Thai/Asian fusion restaurant in Sydney, Surry Hills' Longrain Restaurant & Bar is a sure-fire spice-lovers' dream, and executive chef Martin Boetz knows how to leave you chilli rather than chilly.

5

Assiette
Surry Hills
Also from the 2010 postcode, Restaurant Assiette is another degustation-lovers' domain, frequently featuring such delicacies as seasonal oysters, salt cod fritters and Granny Smith apple jelly. We're holding our breaths to see what signature dishes chef Warren Turnbull chooses for Taste crowds to savour.

6

Four In Hand Hotel
Paddington
Chef Colin Fassnidge continues to lead this fancy dining room to higher glories, proving that a pub restaurant can still earn itself critical acclaim and immense popularity. Prepare for some big flavours from Fassnidge's team.

7

Buon Ricordo
Paddington
There's no such thing as a mediocre pasta at Buon Ricordo, one of Sydney's best-loved Italian restaurants. Open since 1987, this Paddington place has stood the test of time better than most.

8

El Poco Loco
Manly
Open since January only, El Toro Loco is the new kid on the block, but owner/chef Miguel Maestre's Manly tapas venture is already running ahead like a raging bull. Another northern beaches stunner appearing at Taste is long-time favourite Pilu at Freshwater.
