Where to entertain out-of-towners in Perth
A friend once asked, 'Where do you suggest I take my interstate client for dinner to highlight the fine dining and cuisine of Perth? It got me thinking, if I had a friend or client from interstate where would I be proud to take them? I can't take full credit for this list, but it's a few favourites from a couple of Perth foodies.

Balthazar
Perth
|
The menu is splendid. For entrees try the scallops which were of a perfect consistency accompanied by a wilted salad/coleslaw.
For mains the aged beef fillet, which is actually cooked medium rare (a difficult request for most Perth restaurant, but certainly executed by Balthazar) and the venison was incredible! Minute seared, the flavours were amazing, it was cooked well, hot with a pepper sauce and just so wonderful!

Restaurant Amuse
East Perth
|
Don't let the dark lighting turn you off this incredible place! Hadleigh Troy has learned from the best in French cooking - Neal Perry and Alan Farbegues - and it shows!
Tuesday nights at Amuse are 'cellar' nights and thus the only night the restaurant is BYO. The best $75 I have spent in a long time, the courses and beautiful and well thought out. Loved it!

Bistro Felix
Subiaco
|
It holds a reputation of sophisticated food complemented by an extensive wine list from both Australia and Europe. Bistro Felix mimics and has become a reincarnation of the old Subiaco greats like Altos.
Bistro Felix has snatched the best hospitality staff I've ever encountered from the Maitre'd to the attentive waiters with their vast knowledge both of menu and heightened sommelier skills. Pemberton marron on kipfler potato slices, with bisque mayonnaise, and gribliche sauce was an absolute pleasure to eat.
I cannot urge you enough to experience this place for yourself!

Star Anise
Shenton Park
|
The pork belly, when on the menu, is divine. Chef David Coomer works incredibly hard in the kitchen, and this is particularly evident by his incredible asian influenced dishes. Order from the signature menu, try the Ma Hor (scollops) and anything Duck!

Bluewater Grill

|
Enjoy a glass of wine over the perfect vista view of the city from Bluewater Grill's position within the Heathcote Centre. Great tasting seafood, this place comes into is own in Summer. Ever changing menu keeps it interesting. A favourite for wedding receptions.

Opus Restaurant
West Perth
|
I was pleased with the impeccable service - quick, polite and slightly snooty (in a good way!). The wine list is impressive, with a good selection from Europe, California, South Africa and Australia.
The meal starts with the chef's canapes. The dishes are beautifully presented, delicious with a good selection of game meats. The desert selection was balanced offering sweet, fruit and savoury dishes.

Jackson's Restaurant

Who can resist dinner with waiters who know their wine and serve it to you wearing white gloves?
This place is an amzing dining experience, and worth every penny!

Duende
Leederville
|
The spanish style tapas menu constantly changing with the seasons, Duende always gets it right. The staff is young, friendly and helpful, going all out to impress the customer as refined sommeliers. You can sit at Duende for hours grazing on the delightful cuisine. An guaranteed winner time and time again.

Matilda Bay
Crawley
|
Another favourite for wedding receptions with its two separate (and large!) function rooms, Matilda Bay has recently been refurbished and it looks great. The contemporary colours, woods and furniture is only the beginning. It boats a bar, private (and enclose) wine room for dining with large groups.
The restaurant itself is two tiered with the front section a meer few metres from the waters edge. With views of the bay and city glimpes, it is stunning. A true dining experience, a mod oz cuisine this place has finally got it right!

Must Winebar
Highgate
|
Probably Perth's most popular restaurant to currently take out of towners - go for the wine, stay for the food.
Try out the new Champagne Lounge located upstairs. Go on a Sunday or Monday night and be entertained by Jerry, King Oyster Shucker!

The Loose Box
Mundaring
|
The 'Box' offers an extensive set menu, but be prepared to pay for this gastronomic delight. The beef cheek is an absolute winner. Guests are able to also book accommodation.
It's rumoured that Alan Farbegues will be putting on the 2nd Annual Truffle festival in Mundaring this August 2008, including a French truffle degustation dinner.

Perugino
West Perth
|
I was at Perguino for a wedding and spent more time eating than dancing, the food was brilliant! Giuseppe and Rosalba should be very proud of this establishment, certainly one of Perth's finest. It's probably Perth's best star-spotting restaurant. Everyone from Elton John's to Parliamentary Lobbyist Brian Burke.

Chapter One Brasserie
Subiaco
|
This place is absolutely buzzing with young foodies. The French style cuisine has been coupled with outstanding service, employing staff who know their stuff and delight in sharing their opinion on matching wines.

Wonderful wine menu, Chris Taylor always produces a fantastic daily special or two! A cliff view over the city and Swan River, what more could you ask for?

Simple but very good food. The beef fillet wrapped in proscuitto with a hearty shiraz goes down a treat.

Barchetta
North Cottesloe
|
It's position over Cottesloe Beach is stunning.
Barchetta girls are on the mark. When your ordering, when your eating, when they clear your plates away - always cheerful, patient, finding time to enquire how your meal is going. Barchetta boys never burn your coffee; they make it right and make it beautiful to look at too!

Rialto's Restaurant
Subiaco
|
The revamped Alto's restaurant still has remnants of the old ways but sizzles as an up and coming favourite. The seafood is particularly good here, as is the attention to detail of this establishment's decore.
