Romantic Restaurants
My colleague asked me to recommend somewhere both romantic and cool to take his squeeze for their one-year anniversary. Anniversaries are a funny thing. You want to indulge in the implicit romance of the whole affair, but when it's shoved down your throat with a trowel, it can make you feel self-conscious and ruin the experience. These restaurants have both a touch of romance and plenty of panache, ensuring your special night isn't overlaid with cringes and raised eyebrows.

La Sala
Surry Hills

Despite being open for the better part of a year, this cavernous Surry Hills eatery still smacks of that so-hot-right-now vibe. The lighting allows for romance and the food is amazing.

Has endless retro-chic appeal and is seriously romantic. It feels bien-sur, very French.

Again with the retro-chic, but very upmarket and with dollops of class.

North Bondi Italian Food

Very hip, but slightly rowdy. You can't make a booking, but there's a hot bar to drink in, plus the views of Bondi Beach are amazing. It's relaxed and unfussy (though not necessarily cheap) but the food is fantastic.

Icebergs Dining Room and Bar
Bondi Beach

Plush cushions, white linen, top cocktails - and views quite seriously to die for. The food is quite exie but very good. Start off in the bar with a glass or two of Champagne at sunset. If you're lucky, the moon rises over the water and totally distracts from the neon views of Campbell Parade. Either way, it is gorgeous.

Flying Fish

Seriously romantic and ultra-luxe, with attention paid to all the right details. It's quite a large restaurant and it's beautifully lit, so you can retreat blissfully into your own little world. The food is all beautifully cooked (and made from such fresh produce) plus the wine list is superb. The lounge outside is great, too, if your one is a smoker.
