Pizza Passion

My slice of heaven has to be large, anchovy-free and crispy down to its crust. Always. Oh, and it should also be accompanied by a glass of red or a killer margarita. Sure, maybe I'm a tragic pizza junkie, I admit it, but there are worst things I could be. So, without regret, pain or kilojoule-fuelled shame, here are my all-time favourite pizza haunts in Sydney.

1

Napoli In Bocca
Haberfield
It's not surprising to find a pizza legend in Haberfield. This place is well known for its authentic Italian ambience, simple fresh flavours and affordable pricing. I usually go for the classic margarita and a bargain jug of house red to share with my friends. For dessert, my favourites are gelato and tiramisu. Admittedly the vibe at Napoli In Bocca can be loud and chaotic, and the waitstaff have been curt with me more than once. I don't need a dirty look when I ask for a clean fork! But hey, the pizza and pricing are spot on, so I put the rest down to earthy Italian charm lost in translation and keep eating. I'll make up just about any excuse.

Hugos Bar Pizza
Kings Cross
This is as glam as pizza gets in Sydney. If you're a girly kind of girl like me, you won't even contemplate coming here without strappy stilettos, makeup and a seriously gorgeous handbag. Oh, and your credit card. This isn't a bargain experience. The whole menu looks yum, but admittedly I always order the same thing; that's the pepperoni pizza (topped with tomato, chilli, mint and buffalo milk mozzarella) and a salt-rimmed margarita with shaved lime zest. Naughty but nice. Hugos Bar Pizza also apparently took out the title of World's Best Pizza at the New York Pizza Challenge last year, so it's definitely got industry cred. Just make sure you look the part. Hugos is not the place for devouring comfort slices while dressed in your 'burb trackies. Glam up or just stay home and order Pizza Hut.

Bar Reggio
Darlinghurst
I came here for our Christmas party lunch and it was divine ... in a messy, budget kind of way. Imagine hot summer sun in the courtyard, BYO wine galore and a lunch that went on and on. All of us were quite silly by 4pm and our legs ceased to work. We devoured enormous servings of bruschetta, tasty pizza and jam-packed servings of spaghetti marinara. Okay, the pizza here is definitely deserving of praise, but it's really the whole casual ambience and friendly service which really makes it irresistible.

Young Alfred
Sydney
Okay, I haven't been here yet, but I want to visit soon. It's on my new hitlist for post-work dinners in the city. My motivation is that it is run by Bosko Vujovic, the former head honcho of the old Arthur's Pizza in Paddo (when it was iconic). Hopefully it will live up to expectations.
