Easter Fish List 2010

As I'm sure you're all very much aware, Easter will soon be upon us - the most important annual religious feast in the Christian liturgical year, when Christ was resurrected from the grave on the third day after his crucifixion. This holiest of days is when Christians throughout the world celebrate the divinity of their lord and saviour.

But we at yourRestaurants couldn't care less about that because one - as a politically-correct website we have no religious affiliation; and two - it's a great excuse to eat fish!

It is with this interpretation in mind that we proudly present our top spots to stuff yourself with seafood. Our aquatic Oscars, if you will.

And the nominees are...

1

The Deck Bar
Darwin
The multifaceted nature of this restaurant has to be respected. Sure, it s about finding the best spot for seafood this Easter, but live entertainment and half price drinks (Jesus turned water into wine, not the other way round) go a long way to helping in the atmosphere stakes. The edge this place has is the exotic seafood options; not many other restaurants offering Easter seafood specials this year can boast some crocodile and locally caught mud crab on the menu.

2

Atrium Restaurant
Burswood
Not to be underestimated, Western Australia has produced a strong contender with this restaurant. The buffet isn t a seafood-specific affair, but it has enough marine variety that it amounts to the same thing. Some might consider this one a dark horse but consistency counts for everything when it comes to seafood, and this place manages to produce a quality buffet - with a wide variety of Asian and Western flavours - three meals a day, every day.

3

Scampi's on the Beach
Glenelg
Another contender offering an a la carte seafood menu, Scampi s has been offering its customers a fine-dining seafood experience for years. All their produce is sourced locally, giving them serious bonus points for low food miles, and the Mediterranean fare has a fantastic mix of classic cuisine and new innovation. The nod for best seafood restaurant at the 2008 is even further proof of this restaurant's pedigree.

4

Restaurant Tasman
Hobart
Okay, so this one isn t a seafood buffet, but we re after quality, not just quantity. Besides, once you ve sat down to the seafood platter here, chances are you ll have had just about all you can eat. Of course, the reason this restaurant is one of the top favoured contestants is simple: Tasmania produces some of Australia s best salmon.

5

Windows Restaurant
Melbourne
Of course, being in the nation's food capital also helps your chances of taking out best seafood spot in Australia. Windows Restaurant, housed in the Sebel Albert Park, has the added bonus of being run by executive chef Andy North. The English-born culinary wizard has more than 20 years experience in restaurants throughout the world and under his direction, Windows has become one of Melbourne s favourite foodie destinations.

The chocolate indulgence dessert buffet on Friday and Saturday nights also makes this restaurant a real contender.

6

Brasserie on the River
Brisbane
This restaurant should not be taken lightly either. Queensland s fantastic selection of fresh seafood makes any seafood buffet from the banana benders something to behold. Brasserie on the River is another Brisbane landmark for its fresh seafood selections on offer for the buffet. The addition of Moreton Bay bugs to the selection definitely improves its prospects too.

7

Atlantis Seafood Restaurant
North Ryde
As one of the stalwarts of the Sydney seafood scene, this restaurant has to be in hot contention to take out the title of best Easter seafood restaurant in Australia. Not only are they running their usual Sunday seafood buffet on Good Friday at a reduced price, they re also having seafood specials through March, including two-for-one lobster deals and $1 sushi.
