Best restaurants under $15 a head
All the places I head to when I'm feeling a bit tight but want a great value meal. Good with a group of 4 or more to share a greater variety of dishes. I've included some of my favourite dishes with each restaurant.
Some of these are take away shops, most of them are BYO, but I don't recommend BYO to Faheem's (halal), Superbowl or An (doesn't really make much sense to BYO to a Pho restaurant).
These get an honourable mention:
- The Yeeros Shop, Marrickville (lamb, beef & chicken)
- New Zealand Fish & Chips, Botany Rd, Mascot: quite possibly the best hamburgers in Sydney, none of that falling-apart dusted with flour gourmet nonsense.
- Ayam Goreng Jakarta, Anzac Pde, Kingsford: great Bakmi.

At $5 a pop for the only real roti canai in Sydney this place is a winner. Noodles and satay are excellent as well. Highly recommended.

Sushi Suma
Surry Hills

Steer away from the set menu items and go for the sushi sashimi/tempura sets + katsu dishes. Udon noodle soup with egg for $8 is also great value. The sashimi salad at $12 can easily feed two.

To stay under $15 you'll have to be brutal and stay away from the salads, entrees etc. and go for one of the pasta + sauce dishes. My favourite is the spaghetti picanti or the carbonara.

An Restaurant
Bankstown

Not many options here, just the best chicken or beef pho in Sydney. My favourite is the beef soup with tendons.
