Zushi

Zushi is the new designer sushi joint on Victoria Street, bringing together the convenience of Japanese sushi and sashimi with the style-consciousness of Darlinghurst. Featuring a long sushi counter and alfresco seating of chic timber cubes, this trendy little space offers a fresh setting to enjoy over 20 different types of fish prepared by chef Yoon Jae Lee. If trying them all at once seems a bit hedonistic - even for Darlo - then that's all the more reason to go back!

Inconsistent food, negligent service, but decent value...
After a lot of hype, this place turned out to be not half bad, however the food was a bit inconsistent and they need to educate their staff a bit on SERVICE...

In order of what came, we ordered (during their 30% 6-7pm menu): Edamame (nothing special) Dynamite Roll (fantastic! wanted to ask recipe), BBQ Beef (okay), Gyoza Inside Out Roll (exceptional & very different), & the Scampi Special with Miso Soup (a prawn's head in miso - eh...).

While finishing these orders, I asked our waitress about the 2 other dishes we had ordered in the first place. She said they're coming. After about TWENTY TO TWENTY FIVE MINUTES and asking our servers 2 more times, our Spicy Tuna (tasted like chilli powder had simply been dumped on top) and Eel roll (very ordinary) arrived.

Perhaps it was a bumpy night what with the 15 top in the front of the restaurant (who arrived AFTER us) but the lack of acknowledgement at all this place was shameful.

Good food, better than average sushi and sometimes bit inconsistent, but negligent service. A small space to boot. Be the 1st and last visit for us, thanks...

Excellent, every time
We go to Zushi at least once every two weeks. The staff there are fantastic, even though we come with three kids, and they will make sushi to order for us (in fact, they start doing the non-wasabi nigiri as soon as we walk through the door).

We haven't had a bad meal here, and the service and atmosphere make it a lovely place to eat.

An average rating
I agree that the sushi is not of such great quality - the ingredients particularly did not even come close to its new founded reputation - however, it was not terrible. The "tiger roll" I had was quite nice, but overall it lacks the subtlety required for good Japanese sushi, particularly the decision to add "seafood sticks" marred the experience. The presentation of the food is probably their strongest quality, and the ambience of the place is quite relaxed. The chef was very friendly I thought, but he is there on his own, so don't expect his life story. The waitress...hot! In fact, I'm not going back for the food, I'm going back to talk to her again!

The freshest fish I have ever tasted
Zushi is one of my fave hangouts in Darlinghurst. I have been three times now and each experience has been unbelievable. The staff are friendly and easygoing, the atmosphere great, but the food - oh the food is amazing! The freshest sushi and sashimi I have ever tasted. Chef Lee is a genius; has to be one of the top chefs in Sydney. I will be back again and again.

Sushi and Sashimi Hot Spot!!
If you're looking for fresh and deliciously presented sushi and sashimi at affordable prices, Zushi is the place to be. Their creative Zushi rolls are addictive with amazing sauces to accompany. It's a must-eat on Victoria Street!

Rude waitress
Worst experience ever, although we were back for second time, this time we had a very bad experience. The waitress was extremely rude and had bad manners.

Love love love this place!
I am a sushi fan from way back and I have to say, this is some of the best sushi I have ever had. So fresh, so delicious and I LOVE the setup - sitting up at the bar watching the chefs prepare a meal is fabulous, but sitting outside is some of the best, most relaxing alfresco dining in Sydney. Love, love, love this place!

The chef here is to be revered. Do as he says and you will never be sorry. Last meal was a bonito sashimi that was to-die-for. My favourite sushi in Sydney - good to finally have someone go beyond the salmon and tuna.
A more extensive sake menu would be nice, though.

Yet another disappointment on Victoria Street
You know the feeling: you see the hoardings go up on another spot on Victoria Street and you think, pleasepleaseplease let this one turn out to be a decent place to eat. But no. Zushi is yet another in a string of disappointments.

Finding the least friendly sushi chef in the world must've been a challenge. Maybe they were looking at the least good sushi rice finalists and there he was.

This place is everything that's bad about commercialised sushi. The fish has been butchered, the welcome is nonexistent and there's no suggestion anyone here really gives a damn. Go to the Nippon Club, go to Sushi E, go to the Fujiya, treat yourself to Yoshii, check out Himizu on the old XO site - hell, go to the Green Park and have chips and beer for dinner instead. Anything is better than this place.
