always consistent
not too sure about the negative reviews as I've always had consistent service..not super amazing but pleasant and pretty quick. I have only ever had breakfast and lunch or a coffee break so not sure how dinner stacks ups. It's a convenient local offer. Good to have some space between tables compared to other local joints that although are good don't have the space.

A joke
If ever I feel as though I was being taken for a ride, it was at the Zinc Bar. At first appearance the place looked fine and so did the menu. But when the uber casual waiter put our meals in front of us I couldn't help but laugh. There was no effort at all put into these meals. Not an ounce of creativity. We stopped for Japanese on the way home.

Always excellent
I don't understand these other average reviews. I have been to Zinc regularly for breakfast and dinner and have always found it to be excellent. Always friendly, always very good food. The $25 three-course dinner special is the best value I've found anywhere in Sydney. I always recommend it for breakfast or brunch and cross town to eat there.

Terrible service, average food does not make up for it
After previous run-ins with the staff at Zinc (including constant long waits to be served, and being called back and abused when I had to cancel a dinner reservation) we thought we'd give them one last chance and toughed out the long wait to be served (approx 15-20min before our order was taken, on a quiet Thursday lunchtime). Food was average, (bruschetta and basic baguette sandwich, tasted ok, but perhaps our mood was already sour after our wait). Coffee was good, however water had to be asked for around 4 or 5 times. When asked again the waitress stormed over to the table and demanded to know what the problem was, then delivering dirty glasses when we finally received our water! While I understand that everyone has a bad day from time to time I didn't appreciate being made to feel like it was me making her have a bad day by expecting her to do her job. This was the last chance for Zinc, I've been disappointed in their service every time I've been. Why would I return when there are so many other places nearby where people are friendly?

Cheap Eats
The set menu is a bargain with regularly changing 3 course options for $25. The fish of the day - barramundi with vegetables - was perfectly pan-fried, however the red meat options are a little overdone. The dessert options are great, all ice cream is made on the premises, however the chocolate pudding is hard to go by on a cooler evening.
