Known for its "not-meat" meat substitutes (there are duck, chicken, pork, beef, mutton and seafood versions, which are actually delicious), Zenhouse is a favourite among Adelaide vegos and vegans in the know. The restaurant is peaceful and (surprise, surprise) Zen-like, with a pretty water feature and an intimate, quiet vibe. The menu, which consists mostly of Asian and yum cha dishes but also features some western dishes like vegie burgers, is nothing short of incredible. Kong bao not-chicken and immortal not-duck in lemon sauce are pretty popular among vegetarians who miss their poultry, and sizzling not-beef steak with black pepper sauce satisfies the red meat cravings. Not-shark fin soup allows you the taste of something that even many meat eaters wouldn't usually try due to ethical concerns. Most of the meat substitutes are soya or mushroom-based, so you know they're healthy and fibre-rich, while the yum cha menu, noodles and salads are also popular, and for vegetarians who don't feel the need to pretend.
