Setting up shop in the former home of No Name Italian Restaurant, this authentic Chinese eatery provides an option for those who've had a bit too much pasta and pizza on Italian-centric Norton Street. During the daytime, Yummy Garden Chinese Restaurant serves yummy yum cha, so your favourite freshly handmade dim sum, dumplings and desserts never go amiss. If you're a fan of traditional Peking duck, you can book in advance to avoid duck disappointment.

Mother's Day lunch - not such a good time was had by all
We booked for a party of 11 for yum cha for Mothers Day. We arrived to find that we had to order from a menu (after checking when we booked that their yum cha came on trollies. Apparently patrons had complained about the noise so they have discontinued the trollies), Once ordered, the dishes took a long time to arrive. We had difficulty getting information about what the contents were of some of the dumplings. The quality of the food was variable, the coriander seafood dumplings and chive dumplings were fantastic, the egg custard buns were not very nice and fish fillet dim sum had seafood extender and processed fish. The wine list was interesting.

At last a good chinese restaurant in Leichhardt!
Dropped by for lunch today - tried the shredded pork & bamboo - very nice, obviously not pre-cooked and used lots of fresh ingredients. Looking forward to going back and trying the peking duck.
Waitress was lovely and the restaurant has a nice calm atmosphere prevailed.

Very Nice
After listening to the radio advertisement, a few colleagues and I went to Yummy Garden for dinner to try out the the best Chinese restaurant in Leichhardt and we had a fantastic experience.
We had ordered quite a few dishes, all were very nice. The service was good and the staffs there were all very friendly. It was busy there that night but we were attended to rather quickly.
To sum it up we had a very pleasant experience in the middle of Leichardt.
We will definitely go there again.

Really the best Chinese Restaurant in Leichhardt
Leichhardt is well known to have a line of many (good and bad) Italian restaurants. Being in the area, i am thrilled to see that leichhardt has grown in cultural diversity and placed a Chinese restaurant at the top of Norton st.
When entering the restaurant, I instantly felt welcome. I was seated right away, handed a menu, and i was offered a complimentary pot of chinese tea. Being there so many times, i cannot truly say which meal i enjoyed the most. All of the dishes are unique and full of flavour(even something as plain as tofu can get your taste buds tingling).
Of course there will be those few people who dislike the service and the food (and pretty much everything else). But i truly believe Yummy Garden is an asset to Leichhardt which we as customers need to appreciate now before it is too late. Overall Yummy Garden is an unexpected but positive change in Leichhardt. I will DEFINITELY go there again.

Response to SMck Review on 16 Feb 2010
As SMck rightly acknowledges, we are a new restaurant, and as such, we welcome customers comments.
However, we were disappointed at the above review, as it is one of the few negative reviews we have received.
Nevertheless, we have tried to make changes in order to improve our restaurant in every way. For example, our decor has been updated and our new chef has proved to be a real asset.
In view of this, we would like to invite SMck back to our restaurant.

Wouldn't waste your time......
What is it about a good restaurant that keeps you coming back ..? Great ambience, food, service and company. Well - the company was fun. But in every other departmnent the 'Yummy Garden' (who thought of that name...!!??) let me down.
I went there on a Saturday night with a group of friends. It is a new restaurant that boasts it is 'the best Chinese restaurant in Leichhardt' (assume it was the owner who came up with that gem). The restaurant was devoid of any ambience (too much bright light, TV on in the corner, stark surroundings etc). This could have been forgiven if the other factors that make up a quality dining experience existed. Sadly this was not the case. Firstly, the free prawn crackers delivered to the table were stale and had to be sent back. We then ordered a few dishes (as you do). The entrees were average (steamed dim sims) but the mains were sub standard. Our third dish (lemon chicken) arrived late after we had practically finished our other dishes (we had to prompt the waitress as to its whereabouts). When it arrived it was under cooked. We sent it back - cancelled its replacement and asked for the bill.
It's a shame when a new restaurant opens and it just doesn't hit the mark. Especially when the problems are simple basic ones. Leichhardt has a plethora of great restaurants - true it would be great to see some more diversity seep in. But only if these live up to a standard that a diner would enjoy. Needless to say - I'll never be going back.
