Good and Good but overpriced
I initially went to this restaurant with my husband in July 2009, it was a Monday and the place was very empty but it was a cold day outside and probably most people were at work. The waitress said about the all you can eat option, they bring out a trolley with Yum Cha etc and we were quite happy with that. The food was delicious, we tried alot of different dumplings and also were given a satay dish, some vegies and rice - all was very nice and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals and left satisfied and stuffed.
So we decided to return again for lunch a month later on a Sunday - the place was absolutely packed to the rafters. The waiter came and put a piece of paper on our table and then food started arriving and they would mark the paper - we just thought it was so they knew what they had served us as the place was so busy - unlike our first visit. Anyhow they brought out quite a few dumplings - mostly what we had had on our previous visit at $40 per head. Well when we finished and got our bill - our suprise when it was over $200. My husband was going to query it when we were going to pay however the people paying before us were in the same boat, they were quizzing their bill and the outcome is...if you go to this restaurant and want the all you can eat Yum Cha - ENSURE YOU ADVISE THEM, DON'T JUST LET THEM PUT A PIECE OF PAPER AND START CIRCLING IT ON YOUR TABLE AS YOU WILL END UP PAYING PER DISH and it added up very quicky.
Food great, but not a relaxing place when its busy for Yum Cha.

will return
I have no idea what the bad reviews are about. We went there as a group of 12. The service was great. We all got our meals at the same time, not having to watch others eat while you are hungry is always good. As for the food, no complaints there either. I am quite partial to any Asian food and therefore have tried quite a few different restaurants in different areas with varying price ranges and Yum Cha Dragon has been one of the best.Great variety of dishes at reasonable prices. It may not be as cheap as your local Chinese takeaway shop but you are definitely paying for quality and service, which in my opinion is worth it.Will go back for sure.

Yum cha in my tum, ya
We had a speacial girls night and ended up spending the whole evening in the restaurant alone! Service was exceptional and the choice of wine superior. Food was prepared quickly and presented well. The prawn dish we had was to die for. The restaurant was full but the staff were still attentive. I'd recommend Yum Cha Dragon everytime.

Overpriced terrible food and service
I was skeptical about going to Yum Cha Dragon after receiving a bad review from a friend but went ahead anyway as we had a big group. We were quickly convinced to take on the $40 buffet yum cha menu which turned out to be something like a banquet instead. We weren't given the choice of ordering what we wanted from the a la carte menu. The dumplings were hardly half cooked and the food was terrible in general. Service was not spectacular either.
I will definitely not be going back there and would strongly discourage anyone from going there.

Yum cha
The food was ok but not great. Much better yum cha in the suburbs. Quite expensive as well but I guess at the Docklands you need to expect that. Service is quite slow as there is only one trolley, so we ordered a la carte and these took 45 mins to arrive. Too slow for yum cha.

Where is everyone?
Lovely food, great service, empty restaurant. A bit disappointing, as I was expecting the whole crazy yum cha trolley rush thing. Would love to go back for the food (eg. I cannot stand oysters, but the ones with black bean here are great), but don't want to experience the ghost town thing again.

Overpriced
There is a reason why this Yum Cha venue is half empty... as most diners will find when their bill comes at the end of the meal. We are a committed group of people who regularly eat yum cha and were looking for another inner city venue. The food is extraordinary. Quite a modern take on the ususal Yum Cha but it could not be faulted for divine flavour and even the staples such as dumplings and spring rolls were amongst the best we've ever had. We had initially enquired about the price per plate and had been happy to pay the $8 to $9 price per serve. When our bill came, we were shocked. We questioned the amount with the owner and were told that we had been sold $17 plates which was not explained to us at the table. Yum Cha Dragon has a story in the front of their menu telling of the gentle art of drinking tea with yum cha.Imagine our shock, when we were charged $26.40 for a pot of tea! We questioned this price and although only 4 people on our table had drunk tea, we were charged $6 per cup plus GST.

Best yum cha in Melbourne
Its often a risk dining out as a coeliac, however this is a no risk option. Annalise was more than happy to confirm the availability of plenty of gluten-free dishes. All items are marked (G) for those containing gluten on the menu. Food was incredible!
