"We don't take ourselves too seriously." That's the word from owner/manager Bosko Vujovic, former head honcho of Arthur's Pizza in Paddo. Young Alfred is the Vujovic family's new Customs House venture. The surroundings are a distinct step up in class and the menu has developed to include a variety of tantalizing non-pizza mains. Nevertheless, the temptation to go upmarket has been strongly rejected and both the prices and attitude reflect a desire to feed locals, corporates and library visitors alike. Everything costs between $20 and $30, which is pretty amazing given the location and the options on offer.
The pizzas remain, as have the quirky names developed over the years by a band of young, sweaty pizza-makers. 'Ping pong' refers to the after-work games played on Oxford Street. 'Martha' is a spin on Arthur and '10' takes a bow to Pele. The location is exceptional, and was hard-earned as you'd expect. Tables spill out onto the Circular Quay bus terminal, while inside, international newspapers hang only a few feet away and the room is beautifully appointed in the same style used throughout the library.

Awesome every time
Wow - I had a sour cream and brown sugar brioche from Young Alfred today. It was amazing, along with all of their pastries. Amazing coffee and a young Alfred pastry - awesome.
I work at Circular Quay and last week spent the weekend holed up in the office. I completely subsisted on the pizzas - superb. I had the Martha for the first time, couldn't believe what I'd been missing! From now on I'll be torn between it and the magnificent TNT!
The wine list is small but impeccably chosen. Beautiful wines match the menu perfectly. Awesome stuff guys!

Legend restaurant!
although Young Alfred is slightly formal, the atmosphere is relaxing and fun, the food is awesome, the famous pizzas have gone gourmet but as good as ever, and the dessert? Don't let me even get started on the desserts, too good! I go there almost twice a week. The location is also great and sometimes there are little festivals or events going on in front of the restaurant. Great fun, fantastic place, with fantastic people.
