Established in Balmain nine years ago, Wok On Inn noodle bars have since spread to three other locations around Sydney. They are designed to let you build your own healthy noodle dish from scratch, choosing from a selection of egg, hokkien or rice noodles; Chinese, Malay or Thai flavours and then anything from vegetables to seafood to fill it up the rest of the way. While the sauces, particularly the Malay (a mild chilli sambal), tend to be a bit on the oily side, they still taste good and the dishes are incredibly filling. This Darlinghurst incarnation is bright and funky, with tables and scoop chairs in modern white and a fresh, uncluttered feel that produced by the minimalist decorations, abstract artworks and clean, open spaces. Drinks - alcoholic bevvies as well as the softer varieties - are available, and the staff, while brisk, are generally attentive and polite.
