Look for the bright blue building on Mitchell Street to discover Wisdom. While the name hints at something a little more existential than drinks and nibbles, this venue's fount of knowledge only flows with pure, icy cold beer. The name is actually a pun on the site's former life as a dental surgery, but you'd never guess the building's past thanks to a comprehensive facelift.
The restaurant is a favourite breakfast hangout among locals and travellers alike, who flock with their morning newspapers to the large umbrellas and funky seating. The shady dining area is a perfect spot to relax on a Sunday, reading the paper and indulging in life's simple pleasures. Though the atmosphere is relaxed to the point of lethargy, food service is quick, even when the place is flooded with patrons. The majority of the staff are backpackers (standard for the industry in Darwin) and these cheery travellers are efficient and friendly.
The large menu is full of hearty modern meals and scattered with plenty of native cuisine and Territory produce. Try the Territory platter of chargrilled crocodile, kangaroo and emu with tomato bush chutney and mango, mint and chilli salsa. After dinner, slip over to the bar for cold drinks and maybe a live band.
