Housed in a building more than a century old, the Welcome Hotel Bistro is not for those expecting a menu of simple bangers and mash. Head chef Alex Watts has crafted a menu of predominately seasonal offerings akin to the type of fare doing the rounds at gastro-pubs throughout Britain.
Diners can expect to feast on dishes such as king crab cake with chive and a neat swirl of saffron hollandaise. Mains are a gutsier affair with dishes such as Dijon mustard and breadcrumb-coated beef cheeks with a diced beetroot salad and an inventive spin on gremolata, using orange rind rather than the more traditional lemon. Come dessert, patrons that are still hungry will no doubt have a hard time resisting the chocolate nemesis in all of its chocolaty glory.
