Breathing with history, this key Melbourne establishment has stood the test of time nicely, continuing to provide a multi-purpose venue that meets the needs of avid pub-goers, lounge loafers and formal diners.
Erected in 1853 and rebuilt in 1925, the three-levelled Waterside Hotel exudes rustic charm across its bar, lounge, dining room and special function room. Open for lunch on weekdays, and every night but Sunday, the dining room dishes up an assortment of modern Australian and international fare in an amorous a la carte setting. The dinner menu glistens with opportunity, starting with a vegetarian-friendly Middle Eastern plate of hummus, muhammara dip, garlic manoushi bread and Moroccan salads. The mains continue to surprise, from the European-inflected Spanish chorizo and barbecued octopus to the deceivingly simple chicken parmigiana, a famous Waterside wonder.
Those who prefer good pub grub can take advantage of the well-priced drink-and-dine specials, and after a bite to eat, boogie on down to DJs and live acts till the early hours of Sunday morning.
