Easily Balmain's - and possibly one of Sydney's - best Japanese restaurants, this place really does produce stellar food. The atmosphere is upmarket but unpretentious, and the service is attentive and polite but non-invasive. Usually full of locals and newcomers alike, the vibe is relaxed and welcoming. Try the red miso and the slow cooked pork belly.
