If you want your sophistication with a side of comfort, you'll be well-placed at Wah Wah Lounge, smack bang in the middle of Dank Street, the 'Mayfair' of the Sydney food scene. At breakfast it's a toss-up between scrambled eggs and sides, or a yoghurt berry muesli trifle. At lunch there are sandwiches as big as a primary school lunchbox waiting to be packed up to go or enjoyed with a latte under one of their street-side umbrellas. If you pop back at night Wah Wah Lounge morphs from sunny to understated and sexy, with mirrors bearing handwritten specials glinting above the dark wooden tables and pistachio banquets. An accessible wine list dominated by mid-priced Australian drops by the glass and a couple of Kiwi interlopers are happy accompaniments for food, which takes a light-hearted trip around the globe: from chargrilled chicken salad with chickpeas, avocado, tomato, Moroccan spices and yogurt dressing, to skinny slices of toasted ciabatta topped with goats cheese, nashi pear and quince paste. At Wah Wah Lounge there's interest on the plate and generosity in the spirit of their jovial staff, best seen in a trio of sorbets on a hot day, which arrived as three domes of chocolate, hokey pokey, raspberry and an extra scoop of passionfruit - and chilli, just to keep you on your toes.

Been here many times, dinner being my favourite. One of the few places in Sydney where the food and service is reliably outstanding, seating comfortable and atmosphere relaxed. Great place to take a date or your oldies.

My friends and I go there most weekends and we love it. It's such a cool-looking cafe and the staff are great. My favourite is the breakfast bruschetta but my girlfriend loves the breakfast trifle.
