All the way from the UK and via most capital cities in Australia comes Wagamama, a new breed of quality fast food that's leaving its trail of noodles around the globe.
Not necessarily traditional or top of the range, this Japanese-style eatery serves tasty, healthy and generous bowls of noodles, rice dishes and grills.
The Canberra incarnation of Wagamama is decked out with spacious and sleek bench tables at which you can gather a group of friends or comfortably share with a stranger.

Terrible service
Terrible service. We went there and ordered 3 chicken Katsus for our main along with one serving of fried squid & one serving of duck dumpling. On our table I received my Chicken Katsu first, then one entree and then another chicken katsu and entree and last katsu arrived 25 minutes after the 1st katsu. Isn't it meant to be easier for the chefs to make all similar dishes for one table at the same time?? To add on, there was no syncrocity on how and when the food should be served. The price was quite high as well.If service was good then price wouldn'd matter. The waiters seemed completely oblivious of our presence and our readiness to order for food or drinks. They seem to always forget about the drinks. Therefore we were still waiting for our drinks, when our mains were finally served after having to let the waiter remind about our drinks order. All in all there is a lot of room for improvement since their prices are not exactly cheap. Waiters need to know when the chefs had put the food out that it cannot sit and get cold on the seal. Instead of walking around and look busy they should actually be working hard to put the food on the table of the paying customers.

fair
After being a regular at the Brisbane Wagamama I was glad to find they had a restaurant in Canberra. However, (unlike my Brisbane experiences) the service was disappointing, the staff walked around looking hassled and were very abrupt.
The atmosphere on the whole though is informal and relaxed and the whole Wagamama set-up is very trendy. Be aware though, that meals will come at all different times, although the wait is never long.
We found the food to be decent - not awful, but not spectacular. I do recommend the sweet potato fries and if you're a vegetarian try the yasai katsu curry which is the one dish that keeps me returning despite the service. The servings are quite generous, especially the noodle dishes.

Just a fried rice
It's a great trendy set up - long benches to share. The service was a little abrupt which is fine, except that the food was bland. I ordered a rice dish that sounded great, but was really just a fried rice.

What a waste of noodles
Generally, I'm a big noodle fan. When this place opened, I thought happy thoughts. It looked to be a new trendy popular noodle joint. Now all I can wonder is why is it always so busy? Noodles I had were so bland. Service was present, they were busy, but with what I couldn't tell. But at least the restaurant looks pretty, and that is what is most important, isn't it?

Overpriced
There are heaps of these trendy noodle places in Sydney (mostly in the Eastern suburbs) - 20 variations of the same dish, and overpriced. Some people like it though.

Don't bother
The food was unexciting and overpriced for a Japanese eatery. I had the chicken ramen and the soup was very plain and not much flavour to it. For the price you pay, there are better places in Canberra to dine out.
