While exploring the premium wine-producing region of Margaret River, why not take a small detour to South Africa's Western Cape? It's closer than you might think. Just a short drive south of the Margaret River township will bring you to the beautiful white-rendered Cape Dutch-style building of the Voyager Estate Winery. Here, the Wright family have lovingly recreated the grandeur of Cape Dutch architecture, complete with gracious curved gables, perfectly manicured lawns, rose gardens and a traditional 'werf' garden.
Inside, tastefully decorated with classically rich colours and antique furnishings, the dining room is grand and austere, although the atmosphere is extremely relaxed and friendly. Come for morning or afternoon tea and cakes. Or even better, time your visit for lunch and try the fresh local marron; chargrilled veal rib-eye with celeriac and potato puree, pistachio pesto, oregano and shiraz jus; or honey-crusted magret of duck with goat's curd and wild mushroom risotto. Each dish comes with a wine recommendation from Voyager's own award-winning list. Alternatively, you're welcome to bring along your own bottle of bubbly or beer. If you're here in the warmer months, don't miss the opportunity to dine alfresco and drink in the expansive views of the vineyard and rose garden.

Great service, lovely surrounds and wonderful wine were definitely not enhanced by the food. Tasteless prawn croquettes, tough braise of the day - venison osso buco - and nothing really exciting on the menu led to a very disappointing lunch. We left as soon as we could not wishing to be further disappointed by dessert and coffee.
