Another spectacular venue championing the gentrification of Melbourne's laneways, Von Haus offers a welcoming and civilised space, where dining is on a level pegging with the vino on offer.
Steeped in history and culture (Von Haus takes its name from one of its former tenants, prominent colonial artist Eugene von Guerard) and boasting one of the CBD's more enviable pieces of real estate, Von Haus thumbs it's nose at its own pedigree and promptly turns around and delivers comfort foods and warm service, without a hint of pretension.
Like your quirky best friend, you will love Von Haus for its idiosyncrasies. It is a civilised space leading the charge of sophisticated small bars, but seems blissfully unaware of the fact. It is quaint and accessible, yet serves up mod-Oz cuisine with (mostly) French influences, then turns around and delivers a wine list replete with Spanish and Italian varietals. In short, Von Haus is fantastic. Just don't try to figure out why.
