Proving that you can never have too much tapas or cocktails, Vine Bar and Bistro brings European bite-sized fare together with sweet liquor treats in a chic, almost exclusive, loft area above a public bar. Greeted by a giant wooden hippo, diners may remember Vine when it was known as the Hippo Lounge; but while some of the hippos remain, the animal prints are largely ditched in favour of a cruisier and more subdued design that suits the professional and hipster crowds. Upstairs from the Madison Hotel, Vine offers cool glimpses of Devonshire Street and the city lights from its mood-lit, plant-filled, warehouse-style corner section. Beneath all the cool trappings, Vine is led by warm-hearted owner and chef Danny Koutalis, who brings a home-style quality to the mains, which include Black Angus steaks, linguines and salads.
