Though Verandah is best known as a party spot, broadcasting its fun-loving attitude with upbeat tunes and pretty girls lounging over the namesake terrace area, it has always had a minor focus on food. With a stylish renovation of the dining area, this minor focus has become a major one. The restaurant has become an elegant, streamlined space of glossy timber and crisp linen, dominated by a wine wall loaded with more than 1400 bottles. The menu has been similarly spruced up, offering a slick, business-lunch-friendly selection of dishes such as smoked duck salad with beetroot, witlof, watercress and hazelnut dressing; or braised beef cheek with celeriac puree, baby carrots and sugar snaps. However, though the restaurant presents as a fine-dining haven, it hasn't totally kicked off its dancing shoes. In the evenings the tone is that of a luxe wine bar and diners might be more likely to turn to the tasting menu for gourmet nibbles and matching wines.
