Vera Cruz

Mercifully free of sombreros and cacti, this sleek and stylish restaurant is far from the nachos and tacos of pedestrian Mexican cuisine. It boasts an exemplary tequila list and inspired menu. In the interests of good taste you may not be yelling 'ole' but your tastebuds will. If you're a little concerned about hurting yourself with chilli, don't worry, you can ask for a downgrade.

Not for us
This was our second and last visit. Stark and cold atmosphere and therefore very noisy.
Be very aware of upselling and associated costs - nothing offered is complimentary.
Menu was confusing, food was overpriced, undersized and unappetising. They charge for every little thing. Why would you serve meatballs on their own with rice as an added extra? We felt very ripped off. You've lost us for good.

AWESOME FOOD, EXCELLENT SERVICE
Finally a mexican worth raving about! not your usual cheesey packet Mexican here! Modern clean tastes with a varied menu and refreshing drinks, the decor is minimal and dim lighting but we loved it! I'd say the other reviewers that didn't like it must have been looking for a greasey cheesey nachos joint!

Very Disappointing
As far as Mexican restaurants goes , this was one of the worst. The menu selection was limited , what we chose was OK , but nothing worth returning for. The real let down was the service, we waited a good hour for our main meal and the 2 waiters practically ignored us whilst we waited. The Sangria was one of the best I have ever had , but the second round of drinks also apparently got lost. We were beginning to wonder whether the food was actually been flown in direct from Mexico. Well at least that scenario kept us occupied for 15 minutes. The icing on the cake was when the bill came and we had been charged for a number of cocktails that had never been ordered , I wish we had gotten some drinks!! Stay away from this one guys.

fun night out
I have to say, this restaurant has been a regular haunt for a number of years now. The food is delish and I've never left hungry. I recommend grazing on a few dishes and share if you are with a group. The margaritas are a must!

Disappointing
On arrival we were seated and our bottle of wine whisked away from us and placed on a table at the front of the restaurant. We were then encouraged to order cocktails by our over the top waiter. If I had been given a cocktail menu to look at and didn't feel like I was being told to order one, I may have, but the upselling tactics used by our waiter were not necessary and made our entire table feel pressured.
Our nibbles of guocamole, salsa and some corn chips were nice but not nearly enough for five people. When we asked for a few more corn chips to finish our dips with we were not expecting to be charged another $6 for a tiny serving, but later we found that extra charge on our bill.
The starters were interesting but lacked any real authenticity. After a long wait for our mains they all arrived on stone cold plates and as a result our food was served room temperature. The mains were also very disappointing. The fajitas consisted of a few strips of chewy beef or chicken, a tiny spoon of sour cream, an equal size serving of guocamole, some beans and 4 flour tortillas. For $27 they could have done a lot better than that.
After our disappointing meal, our bill arrived and was a whopping $300 for 5 people. To say this came as a shock was an understatement.
The only good thing about this place was the waitress. She was very polite, informative and sincerly sorry about our experience.

Highly recommended!!
This restaurant offers an all-round satisfying dining experience. While the mains were a little average the entrees were delicious and the bar staff mix up some great cocktails. We did find the service a little timely, however it was delivered with a smile and there was one lovely waitress who really enhanced our dining experience. Be aware, the restaurant does sport communal table arrangements, not everyone's cup of tea, but you can dine from the bar area or otherwise there are a few private tables also. Overall, the ambient atmosphere, minimalist decor, scrumptious entrees, and friendly service provided a very worthwhile experience suitable for either a date or for groups.

Great food, fantastic service, barren atmosphere
Can't flaw the service, and the food was very interesting, and certainly not your run of the mill Tex-Mex. The portions are very satisfying in size, too. The weirdest thing about this place is the decor: the dimly lit crosses along the walls are a nice touch, but everything else has a surgical feel about it, as if we'd stepped into some field hospital and were expected to donate blood!
