Good allrounder
I always enjoy Vagelis.
Being local to it, I have been there often for their breakfast, which is filling and delicious, always perfect for a hangover too. One afternoon I have been there and had their antipasto platter, it was grand, delicious and i recommend it. Dinner at Vagelis, last year for on the 21 Oct (I remember because it was Halloween styled tables) was delicious, good selection of wines also.

The service is mostly good, it can be slow in the morning though. I like its open air seating and everyime I drive past I salivate over the lamb salad that they have, so tender and succulent. mmm... might go for a walk now, I'm hungry!

Don't waste your time
My boyfriend and I visited Vagelis on Sunday May 9 for breakfast after seeing the sign out the front advertising Brisbane's Best Breakfast 2008. Sadly the experience was beyond disappointing. When we arrived we were told there would be a 10 minute wait for a table, this turned into nearly 20. As we didn't book and it was Mother's Day we weren't too concerned. When we were finally seated we viewed the menu and placed our order. Almost 1 and a half hours later our food arrived!

We enquired with our waiter several times as to where our order was. The first time he seemed totally uninterested in our query and never bothered to get back to us with how long it would be. 20 minutes later we asked him again. He said he would go and check. He came back and said we should have our meals in 10 to 15 minutes. We decided to wait. Nearly half an hour later the meals still hadn't arrived, so I approached another waiter and he said he would go and check. We were then told our meals would arrive in the next 2 minutes, however it was actually closer to 10 minutes. Finally, after 12 our breakfast arrived! While waiting I was actually so hungry I began to feel sick.

If we had known how long we had to wait for breakfast we simply would not have bothered. The wait staff should have advised how long we would have to wait. Customers should not be left waiting and wondering when their food will arrive. 1 and a half hours wait for breakfast is ridiculous. Whilst the food, when it arrived, was delicious, we both agreed we wouldn't be coming back. I am surprised that a restaurant that advertises itself as offering Brisbane's Best Breakfast would allow this to happen.

Good food, challenging surroundings
We went for lunch on a sunny afternoon, and it was quite pleasant, despite it being a bit hot. (the "bay breezes" were having a break that day evidently).
My friends were quite pleased with their chicken and asparagus sandwiches, and I in turn enjoyed my chicken souvlaki wrap sandwich, although the side salad could have done with some fresher greens.
It would have been quite a nice time had it not been for the enormous number of flies that bothered us throughout our lunch.
Waitstaff was friendly and polite, however they were not very attentive. There were long waits for our order to be taken, to be served, and our glasses sat empty for ages.
All in all, good food, but the flies are not worth an afternoon sitting - I'd only go back for dinner, when the flies are gone!

Vego nachos are the best!
What a fabulous location and alfresco eating area. The menu has great variety and the food is sensational. I recommend the vegetarian nachos and Turkish bread with feta and slow-roasted tomatoes (breakfast). The service is fairly mediocre but the setting and food make it worthwhile.
