This may seem like a slightly over-the-top name for a restaurant, until you realise that Waterfall Gully is in fact the name of the surrounding area. And as the name would suggest, there is in fact an 18m waterfall adjacent to the restaurant, making it quite unique in Australia. Utopia itself is housed in an old stone cottage, originally built as a teahouse in 1912.
A mere 10 minutes from Adelaide, it's easy to understand why this is such a popular spot for weekend day-trippers. Catering to this crowd, the owners provide an all day breakfast menu, even including a section for the kids. Lunch is a more sophisticated affair, that's in keeping with the restaurant's blend of luxury and nature. Free range chicken comes pan-seared with a bocconcini and a baby spinach salad; and wild mushrooms and shallots are captured in a tart served with honey and sticky balsamic.
