Great breakfast, but....
Haven't been to UB for yonks. Breakfast this morning. Food and service great. But the fitout is getting tired. Tatty menus, noticed quite a few chairs with worn patches and the veneer trim on our table kept getting caught on my sleeve and pulling away from the table. Easily fixed detractions from an otherwise fine breakfast.

Dinner with a bang !
I was recently invited to watch the fireworks marking the opening of the Festival of Arts in Victoria Park. My friends suggested we eat at Urban Bistro and watch the show from there. Not being local, I went with the flow thinking the show would out rate the dinner. How wrong could I be ? Firstly the decor and ambiance was warm and polished, the staff friendly without sycophantism but the food outshone it all. I had a beetroot tart, which was delicious and the best tasting meal I have ever had - the lamb wellington, just superb. I thought I hadn't finished and ordered a dessert, alas was unable to finish it (not that my husband minded helping me !). The next time I am back in the area I intend to eat at Urban Bistro again, I can't wait to see if the chefs can beat the lamb wellington. Fireworks ? What fireworks ?

Brunch for all the family
My family ranging in age from 7 to 78 years old recently had brunch at Urban Bistro. It was a busy Sunday but the staff were pleasant and efficient. We ordered something then changed our minds but this didn't phase them our request was accommodated gracefully. The brunch meals were generous and delicious. I am fussy about my poached eggs but these were great. I liked the fact that the restaurant has an atmosphere that is balanced between the casual and the formal. I am looking forward to going back for dinner soon!

Classy breakfast
Very smooth. The staff were a bit detached, I felt as though I wasn't cool enough to be gracing their tables. To be honest, my tracksuit pants have a hole in the knee, my kids are under 4 and I don't want to blow-dry my hair on a Saturday morning. It's a great place for a breakfast 'date' but not for families.
