Union Hotel

A cultural icon of Adelaide, the Union Hotel has been in constant service since the middle of the 19th Century. The latest guise is a fashionable and timely refit. The renovations have added some '70s flair to the 'old girl', and the Union hotel is now the meeting place for more than just a few disgruntled teachers. Lavish use of wood panelling, mood lights and plush seating reflects the savvy style of the young inner-city crowd.

Chef Kieren Mykyta's menu lists a number of pub-grub favourites, plus tapas, pasta, risotto and paella. Although the stuffed pork fillet is a favourite, the paella is also popular. There's a range of Coopers on tap, plus a handful of imported ales. But the Union Hotel isn't just a tonic for the overworked white-collar crowd. Later in the evening the din of nine-to-fivers is replaced by the soothing beats of techno music, which suits the bright young things nicely.

State of the Union address
You people are kidding yourselves, surely? This is one of the most poorly designed pubs in Adelaide - particularly a bar which is crammed against a wall that makes manouevring around drinking nigh on impossible.
The food is mediocre at best and now better than you can get cheaper at less "salubrious" establishments in the suburbs.
As for the price of a beer, take out an overdraft. The owners are fair dinkum kidding themselves.

Fabulous
Wow great food. It suited us fine that we could order and pay for our meals at the bar. We chose a selection of the tapas and were very pleasantly surprised. The pastry used in the smoked salmon filoettes was delicate and incredible and chicken kofta awesome. When we are back in Adelaide we will certainly come back here.

Worth a try
I ate here a few times during the Festival and Fringe. Good food - you can tell the kitchen care about what they send to the table. It is a pub, so food and drink orders are at the bar. A plea for more vego options on the menu. The specials board is always interesting, and worth considering.

Best pub lunch
This is a favourite because you know that you're always guaranteed great pub food for a decent price. I have not yet been disappointed. Always busy but you can always get served and fed in a reasonable time. The meals are generous and always consistent.
