Situated on the lower end of King Street, the Union Hotel looks like your typical colonial-style corner pub on the outside. The interiors tell a different story, seamlessly intermingling old and new, from the classic sports bar out the front, to the bright and modern dining and lounge areas, which spill out into two very cute and cosy beer gardens that keep you warm and comfortable during the cooler months (with the large heaters), and chilled during balmier days (under large white umbrellas). The seasonal menu covers the best of the bistro world, ranging from a chargrilled T-bone with mash and vegies to a Cajun chicken breast stuffed with brie on kumera and baby rocket. The Union Eatery maintains the glowing reputation that Newtown's pubs have for quality food and easygoing ambience.

The Union Bistro
Went for dinner last night and had a fantastic meal, the bistro must have changed hands since the last time my husband ate here. The menu was excellent with lots of variety, in particular was happy to see three types of fish to choose from. We didn't have to wait long (and it was busy) for our piping hot meals. I had the crispy skin salmon with asian greens and husband had the chirozo fettucine. Well, we were so impressed, restaurant quality at reasonable prices .... good selection of beers on tap at the bar, no complaints here. all in all excellent local pub fare, we are meeting friends for lunch there this weekend as a result.
