If a breakfast known as 'skinheads on a raft' piques your curiosity, head to one of Melbourne's latest hole-in-the-wall CBD haunts, Two Fingers. The aforementioned dish is a lot more appetising than the quirky title indicates, consisting of pesto scrambled eggs, tasty cheese, chorizo and spiced beans with parsley, coriander, cumin, paprika and tomato, piled on toasted slabs of the chef's own homemade cornbread.
That's just one example off a menu full of fresh, wholesome, flavoursome food, which is entirely made on site - unlike many of their city contemporaries, there are no bulk-bought generic cookies and muffins here. Daily specials abound, while the set breakfast menu includes crumpets with berries and honey butter; blueberry waffles with sorbet; and the B.E.L.T.A. - bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato, avocado and the house-made mayo. An off-beat sweet fix can be found in the 'spice boys' (very anatomically correct gingerbread men - not one for the kids), as well as crumbly wagon wheels and luscious honey joys.
Friday sees the upstairs loft area open up as a bar for the after-work crowd to cut loose with drinks, music and complimentary finger food.
