Twig Cafe

Hidden snugly in the back area of Garden Life, this gourmet savvy and socially responsible cafe is the epitome of Surry Hills' cafe scene.

The Twig Cafe, the brainchild of Richard Unsworth and Richard and Lorraine Francis, couldn't be a more Surry affair. It's situated in the 2010 postcode's latest buzz zone, head chef Richard Francis' former stomping ground was Surry Hills favourite, Bills, and partner Lorraine has slowly crawled her way down Crown Street at stalwarts such as Billy Kwong, Bills and Red Lantern.

The food is what you would expect from such a sharp duo. Cafe staples are given a much needed makeover at Twig, with a poached chicken breast salad with grilled prawns, watercress, fennel, pink grapefruit segments and pistachio topping the list of lunchtime options. To top it all off, organic coffee from Single Origin (the unstoppable Surry Hills roasters, of course) and green waste going to a local community garden project give this place all the en vogue enviro-cred it will ever need.

Great way to start the day...
Good breakfasts can be hard to find. Superb breakfasts even rarer. Twig supplied a superb ++ breakfast - setting (early birds can eat in the garden),hospitality and genuine enthusiasm of staff, great ingredients beautifully prepared and served. Oh -and great coffee!
Don't miss the mushrooms. And the multigrain bread! And the muffins! Yes,I'm raving. They deserve it. Don't miss Twig!
