Twelve Restaurant

Courtesy of the wide glass frontage, potential diners can thoroughly size up this contemporary restaurant before entering - from the wooden floors and artfully dangling light bulbs to the modern Australian meals coming out of the kitchen. The selection of pizzas are very popular.

Good food, lousy service!
Been to Twelve Restaurant few times - food was good but service was average. However, one tends to forgive the service if the food was good, right? Big mistake - last time I turned up with a friend for lunch, it was a Sunday. Asked one of the staffs if it's BYO and she said yes and she walked away. I went to the bottle shop, came back 15 to 20 minutes later and my friend was still sitting at the table - no menu, not even offered a glass of water. There were 3 girls behind the cash register area and about 1 or 2 staffs "floating" around. Tried to signal one of them but to no avail so we left the restaurant. Best thing about Twelve Restaurant is never to return - pity they cannot match the good food with terrible service!

Gluten-free haven on King Street
Relaxed, quality new modern environment with extensive gluten-free menu and helpful staff. Sure, the service is egalitarian and down-to-earth - no fancy pants - but overall good and there when you need them. Arrive early to avoid the rising noise level off the polished concrete floor. FIVE STARS for a gluten-free menu with bucket-loads of choice. We'll be back!

12 must be the number of unsuccessful restaurants managed
Through an internet search I had read a few reviews on restaurant 12 and various others, ultimately deciding to experience what restaurant 12 and their service team had to offer.
Arriving on time for my reservation my date and I were quickly told to sit at an unkempt table. After 2 minutes of sitting at this table the bus boy who had originally told us to sit returned with a damp rag to clean our table. We were told that our waiter would be by just as soon as possible. Not being in a rush and having a bottle of white (Oyster Bay sauv blanc/NZ) and a bottle of red (Hainle Vineyards 96 cab sauv/Peachland BC Canada) we were in no hurry anyways. After about 10 minutes our waiter finally decides to turn up and with no introduction immediately asks us what we were having for dinner? I replied by stating just that we were in no rush. Entrees ordered included sauteed scallops on top of a bed of rice, which cost $14 for 4 small sized scallops. My date decided on the prawns smothered in cooked tomato sauce with some herbs, which cost $16 for 6 prawns. Mysteriously there were many more prawn tails in the dish which leads me to believe that the cook had kept them in the sauce to add flavor or one of the cooks was a little hungry. Either way a little bit pricy for what we received. Sure enough our waiter appeared again to collect our plates and was gone without taking our dinner order. After almost flagging him down we had our dinner orders taken and life was again good for the moment. To my surprise the rib eye was sold out as well as my second choice which was lamb shanks so I settled on the kingfish special for the day $29. I think I could have prepared a better sauce for the fish and the serve size was very small. The dish was meant to be accompanied by brocollini however was sided with asparagus and poorly plated.

To top of this experience our waiter had left without even stating that a new waiter would be continuing on with our table.

One more thing which bothered me was when the bill was presented the waitstaff stood idly by waiting for me to sign the visa receipt. Very tacky in my opinion.

I could go on and on however I think you get the picture. Bad service bad food! Enough said!

Great Pasta
My food rating may have been slightly generous as I ate a fantastic pasta. It had a wonderful, yet suprising base of marscpone; it was light and a medium dose of chilli complemented this wonderfully.

I would recommend sharing the food; I did this and I enjoyed tasting many things at a place where it would be rarely done.

Last night we were visiting from Tamworth NSW. We only had a light meal because we had been to a family barbecue lunch. I wanted to commend our waiter - tall, slim, blond man who was superb and most courteous towards us. We have just returned from an around the world tour, but this waiter was the best we had anywhere. His outstanding service enhanced our delicious meal. We will be returning often.
