Sometimes I think that all the world's problems could be fixed if everyone would just sit down and enjoy some scrambled eggs at Tusk. No, really. Scrambled eggs and a Chapel Street perve. But while logistically it could be a bit of a nightmare getting all the heads of state to convene on this suburban strip, that's no reason to deprive yourself of a feed at this Windsor institution.
Located at the 'other end' of Chapel Street, Tusk has been taking care of cravings and weekend hangovers (and no doubt a few midweek ones too) with their fresh air and rustic decor for more than seven years. An open kitchen creates a cheerful din among the polished floorboards, stained glass windows and a tropical mural that'll have you counting the days until your next beachside getaway.
Taking full advantage of a boardwalk extension, Tusk has set up shop on the footpath and attracts a cross-section of Melbourne characters, ranging from cash-strapped students to affluent locals. The menu is as diverse as its clientele, catering to the post-morning crowd with a lunch and dinner menu that features share plates, burgers and Italian fare, with wok-tossed Asian vegetables thrown in for good measure.
Setting up a cafe in Melbourne is nothing new. Setting up one that's as good as a Rick Astley comeback track is. Tusk is undoubtedly one of the yummiest jewels in Chapel Street's crown.
