This sophisticated noshery is located within the award-winning Medina Grand. This stately, heritage-listed establishment has graced the city's central street since the 19th century, but its historic facade gives way to a comparatively modern interior.
The dining room is easy to settle blissfully into, with Italian designer furniture, a fireplace, subtle lighting and bare wooden tables softened by padded chairs. Banquette seating in the front window takes in city views, while the rear of the room looks out over a gorgeous courtyard with a lush lawn and an elegant fountain.
The Adelaide Central Markets are nearby, so sourcing prime produce is never a problem for this kitchen. Oysters from the state's west coast are served natural or according to the chef's whim as a daily special. Classic hand-cut fillet steak tartare wins applause, as does the Rolls Royce of risotti: a concoction of lobster, tarragon, fennel and saffron. Another entree of note is the West Indian marinated chicken heart skewer with yam croquette and sauce chien.
The list of mains offers such dishes as fallow deer osso bucco with buckwheat polenta and green olive gremolata; and chargrilled baby octopus in casareccia pasta with lemon thyme and garlic bread crumbs. Ensure at least one person at your table finishes up with a dessert of sour cherry parfait with molten chocolate pudding, toasted marshmallow and coconut.
