In the ever-evolving Melbourne pub scene new venues are always opening and closing. Everything is in a constant state of flux. Except, that is, the Tramway.
In its 130-plus years, the Tramway has stood its ground, a bastion of the traditional Aussie pub. In fact, the two months it was closed for a recent refurb is probably the longest time it has been absent from the scene.
With said renovation the Tramway has still held to its traditional "local pub" roots but contemporised its appeal. A burger bar has been introduced in place of the tired bistro menu, packed with interesting toppings and flavour combinations. Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influences also creep into the menu in the form of stuffed portobello mushrooms and slow-cooked octopus marinated in sumac and orange.
Paired with a freshened decor and some music from this century, the Tramway is back to its fighting best.
