Recently taken over by two foodie couples who really know their stuff, the Town Hall Hotel (formerly Griffs) has had a makeover (though it's kept the charming leadlight and high ceilings) and is now dishing up some of the best Italian in town.
The fare is traditional, but there's not a greasy pizza or pasta menu in sight, with specialties instead including bollito misto (a selection of boiled meats with mustard fruits and salsa verde) and a torta of farmed rabbit, potato and leek with spiced pear chutney that shouldn't be missed. The menu is composed of small, medium and large plates as well as bar snacks and chichetti such as pan-fried chorizo with grapes and veal and pork meatballs, so it's adaptable and suits long stints of lazy grazing. There's too much to try in one go, so repeat visits will obviously be necessary.

Gourmet Traveller Feature Review - "The dining rooms at the Town Hall Hotel might seem laid-back, but the interesting mixed- Mediterranean menu will have diners sitting up in their seats, writes Michael Harden. "
