The latest addition to Glebe's newly spruced-up eating and drinking precinct, Toku Toku (named for the sound sake makes as it's poured from the bottle) is a schmick izakaya boasting affordable, modern Japanese. As you'd expect, this being a house of sake and all, there's also plenty of the good stuff. The space sprawls over both levels of an old terrace, including a courtyard (complete with goldfish pond and a little footbridge), and has an open, modern look, with black-stained timber and high ceilings. The food is contemporary, casual Japanese fusion at its best. Miso wagyu beef salad, crispy pork belly with mustard and chilli bean sauce, soft shell crab tempura and a teriyaki-inspired Toku Toku chicken are all on the menu. Pair it with a sake or Asahi beer on tap and there should be no complaints here.
