Sommelier extraordinaire Clint Hillery's latest venture is all about wine and the enjoyment thereof. Teaming up with brother Nathan, he has created a warm and inviting space on Stanley Street (Sydney's other Little Italy) that's an unpretentious place to while away a few hours with a glass of wine - with or without mates.
Vino's upstairs 'wine gallery' is adorned with comfortable couches and alcohol-inspired local art. Downstairs in the restaurant, blackboard menus advertise the kitchen's wares, with succinct sections entitled 'waiting for friends' (tapas-style nibbles), 'friends have arrived' (main courses) and 'who needs friends' (desserts).
Food-wise that translates to decadent starters such as foie gras mousse with five spice crisps; mains such as White Rocks veal osso bucco with tomato and orzo ragu; and a sweet finale of hazelnut praline parfait sandwiches. Every drop on the constantly evolving wine list is served by the glass, bottle or a half-litre carafe - a handy touch if you're driving, or just unable to limit yourself to one option.
