Tides' outlook over Bulcock Beach would be classed as a million-dollar view in any postcode, but this restaurant aims to offer Caloundra locals more than just a pretty vista. Tides boasts an evocative menu of contemporary dishes, with trawler-fresh seafood in the lead role. Entrees are fascinatingly intricate, with dishes including sauteed, pancetta-wrapped scallops paired delicately with a spiced carrot puree and fragrant basil oil. Smith's mains are a little more simple: a cold seafood platter allows sublime produce to speak for itself; while a pan seared ocean trout gets a classic Italian treatment on a bed of gnocchi and asparagus, topped with a basil gremolata.

Everyone makes mistakes
My wife and I were also dining at Tides on Saturday night. We did over hear the waitress talking to 'Moffat duo's table we agree that they obviously had a bad night but the waitress was doing everything within her power to make everything right, taking full responsibility for everything that had gone wrong. (I understand they didn't pay for their entrees or mains)
My wife and I also had to wait a little for our meals but looking around the restraunt was full so the wait was understandable.
Everyone makes mistakes and I'm sure the waitress wont be making the same mistakes again.
My wife and I are regulars at Tides and will still continue to be. We love the food and think the service is fantastic. We'll definately be back very soon!

How to have a non celebration
After having eaten at Tides on a number of occassions, I would have to say the latest dinning experience will be our last. As the evening was suppose to be a celebration for my Husband and I, the attitude, the food and most importantly the level of service including the attention to detail was beyond poor. Initially, after having made a reservation, the general attitude from the staff greeting us was "are you really sure that you booked here" as they could not find said reservation. We were seated at the back of the restaurant with halogen spotlights so bright that you felt like you were on display - no atmosphere for us to try and celebrate... We waited an hour before we received the bread we ordered, with a minor apology from the waitress for the delay. While the bread was ok (at least it was warm), there seemed to be an alarming trend to not follow up on drink orders or assume that the wine we were drinking was a "glass only" affair, as the waitress assigned to the area was more interested in spending time talking to another table. Finally after waiting another 30 plus mins, we received our entree...the tempura oysters and kilpatrick were...well...cold! The shell of the oyster was not hot or warm, the liquid found in these 2 dishes was cold...finally after having returned the dish to the kitchen the drink order we put in arrived at the table. By this time it was 9.00pm and no mains had arrived, no drink service forthcoming. To the point where my husband had to locate; get up from the table and pour his own wine, and then return the wine to the basket all the while our waitress was STILL speaking with the other table close by. If this is suppose to be fine dining then surely, as other restaruants we have been to do not even allow you to get to the point of having to ask let alone serve yourself, then this is not it! At last our mains arrive, they shouldn't have! While the pasta dish I ordered was luke warm, the fish dish my husband asked for was raw! The wait staff had left him with no cultery and I had to try and attract their attention to receive some, the waitress who was handing him a fork saw the fish and immediately took it off my hudband with the intent of getting "another" from the chef. We refused! We were apologised to by the negligent waitress with the blame being assigned to the kitchen, when it was pointed out to the lady that we had to serve ourselves due her attention being fixed on one table, we were then apologised to...again. And finally the time to pay the bill for an expensive piece of bread , we were again apologised to. I would have to say that if anyone asked me to recommend this local restaurant, I would have to say NO WAY! It was humilating, so disappointing and to end up in tears as you are walking out of the restaurant is not something that I ever want to experience again.

Ticks all the boxes
Wait staff were very pleasant, attentive and friendly. Service was excellent and prompt without feeling bothered by over attentive staff. We had entree, mains and deserts and all were most enjoyable, well presented, clever and very tasty. Entrees, I had scallops and my wife had oysters. The seafood was arguably the freshest we have experienced. I must admit I cannot give many details as I am writing this review nearly a month after. But the atmosphere is terrific and not noisy or too quiet. It is beach side and you have views over the water which is most relaxing. We were most impressed with the service as we over heard the international guests at the next table have some special requests which were met very accommodatingly by the wait staff. It seems the customer is right still exists here on the Sunshine Coast, if not anywhere else. Among so much restaurant mediocrity, it is a delight that Tides have ticked all the boxes for me. We have been here before and we will be back again.
