T'hooft

T'hooft translates as 'the leader' in Flemish and this little place is certainly leading the way in Bendigo's cafe scene, priding itself on being the only place where Belgian-brewed beers and fresh Belgian food can be enjoyed side by side.

The menu is seasonal and ever changing, but one constant is the extensive range of Belgian waffles and decadent toppings. If you're trying to be healthy, compensate with a freshly squeezed juice. This is a great pit stop for homely sweets (such as a Belgian triple-chocolate muffin or passionfruit, honey and almond cheesecake) and savoury treats. Try a quick snack, such as a sundried tomato, feta and pumpkin scone or the soup of the day, or linger over an antipasto plate of deli nibbles.

The atmosphere is upbeat with reggae music, vintage lamps and retro European-style cafe posters, making T'Hooft a cosy place to settle in and work your way through the extensive range of Belgian beers.

Beer for breakfast?
Another great find and rare good service for Bendigo. Food was tasty and interesting and 20% was offered off breakfast if you had a Belgian beer (more about tradition than irresponsible drinking). It was a place with a conscience and had the goals and values on the menu which I admired. Bit dissapointed that the hash browns were not made in house and were more like fast food chains.
