The Whitmore Hotel

Built in 1839, The Whitmore Hotel has seen many days as a working class pub, a gay and lesbian venue, and even a strip club. Following a stellar facelift in 2009, The Whitmore Hotel is just as vibrant as ever. A community-style pub in the city, The Whitmore creates a warm and inviting pub setting where you can enjoy a fine wine or tasty Italian espresso while being soothed by the sounds of acoustic live music. This social hub also prides itself on serving quality pub foods, including Thai chicken pizza, salt and pepper squid salad, and 300-gram MSA-graded yearling rump steak.

ONe of those pub pearls in Adelaide CBD
We ate at the Whitmore last Friday night and it was fantastic. The restaurant has a great feel to it and the staff were really friendly. They only had their basic menu up, so we didnt have entree, but the mains were great (Battered flathead, Pumpkin Risotto and SaltnPeppa squid). Their wine list is also interesting, small but good quality. We had a bottle of Snakes Patch Cab Merlot, )from McLaren Vale I think). The whole bill for 3 mains, 2 beers, the bottle of red and 2 coffees was $90 odd, which for 3 people and the quality ansd size of the meals was a steal. Thoroughly recommend it.
