This converted garage is easily spotted by looking along Victoria Street for a small cluster of gorgeous creatures, smoking and flirting at the bottom of a wide staircase like rebellious young peacocks, defying the no-nicotine policy inside. Once inside, the Victoria Room is a British Raj-esque space, filled with an eclectic mish-mash of restored antique chairs and tables, boudoir-style couches and individual lamps. Patronised by Sydney's funky and fashionable, the space is a hybrid of colonial gentlemen's club and 19th century house of burlesque.
A popular cocktail bar, the Victoria Room also offers a dimly lit and romantic restaurant space for dinner. The menu is predominantly Middle Eastern and Mediterranean tapas. These are a little more upmarket than your usual tapas, including such dishes as baharat-seasoned Persian prawns; or zaatar-encrusted rare tuna. On Friday and Saturday nights, the kitchen stays open between 11pm and 1.30am for supper - a pared down menu of moreish (no pun intended) snacks.
If all this is a little too new world for you, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons you'll find high tea, where ladies and enlightened gentlemen can indulge in scones, cucumber sandwiches and tea (or champers if you're feeling a bit naughty). It's all frightfully civilised, dahling, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Great atmosphere
We went here on a wet and cold night, and it was very cosy and staff were friendly. Great place to relax for a few hours - start with a cocktail and the mezze plate (great dips!) and then share a few mains. The rib eye and prawns are recommended but the best dish was the friend haloumi salad with sundried tomatoes and asparagus. We weren't rushed out and it was perfect for an intimate catch-up with a few close friends.

Sexy, but dimly lit
Victoria Room is gorgeous, decked out in a modern style Victorian era.
The restaurant is incredibly warm and cosy and has a fantastic atmosphere. A mix and match of tables, chairs and lamps gives adds to it's charm while holding style and avoiding that 'St. Vinnie's' look.
The food is great, very delicious, served in tapas style, so you get to try a wide variety of food and flavours.
My only gripe is the restaurant is a touch too dimly for a food establishment (maybe not an issue for the adjoining bar). Otherwise, a very sexy room with great food.
