Possibly one of the coolest cafes in the area, The Urban Coffee House welcomes you with its earthy vibe that pervades the fresh lime green and warm terracotta colour scheme of the signage and high-ceilinged interiors of the cafe. The menu focuses on the healthy and the hearty, providing all-day breakfasts, specialty teas, Fair Trade coffees, juices, smoothies, cakes, quiches, focaccias, toasties, pies, salads and a range of gluten-free offerings too. It's like an urban inner city cafe supplanted in a coastal town setting, so you get both the variety and the atmosphere at the Urban Coffee House.

Fresh and Funky
Ah at last, a cool coffee house not full of tourists and dishing up truly fresh and thoughtful food.
These gals seem to have found the perfect spot for their relaxed cafe. Away from the main streets and protected from the highway noise is this funky gem. With the welcoming Kia Ora on the board as you walk in, you instantly feel comfortable and relaxed. The staff are all chilled and friendly and it seems as though regular patrons are remembered and treated like family.
The atmosphere and decor are great. Cool limes and browns, with well thought out and co-ordinated touches dotted throughout. These small curios shed a light on the Maori influence and the artistic and side of the owner. There are also some clever additions - a play area (with timber gates) for children to play and comfy couches to while away an hour or so with a book and a coffee. These additions are aspects seriously lacking in the area until this place opened.
The food is super fresh and well thought out. Mainstream cafe favs mixed with organic super healthy dishes. The platters are plentiful and good value (especially great to see a kids version with healthy food and a treat). There is an eclectic mix of influences from all over with a slight lean towrards the morrocon or spanish type flavours. The obvious use of seasonal produce is a highlight and local ingredients used throughout.
The breakfast menu is good, the vego breaky is sublime!
Great coffee, made well. Happy efficient staff. Comfortable surrounds, mellow music. Modern relaxed and funky. A great newcommer to the area.
