The Tap on Mitchell sits smugly on Darwin's main drag of Mitchell Street, enjoying a prime position to catch the languid stream of thirsty tourists and Darwin locals. Basically one big beer garden, the venue serves up simple and satisfying fare, from salads to steaks and burgers, washed down with icy cold tap beer and cocktails.
If you're after a bargain feed of fish 'n' chips, rump steak or perhaps a bowl of nachos, this is the place to head. For something slightly more exotic, opt for the Thai green curry - served in a large deep bowl, the curry is infused with lemongrass, coriander and chilli, and served with rice and pappadams. For a mid-afternoon snack, the thick-cut beer battered chips are a top pick with a cold beer or two. The service is pub-casual, with orders taken at the counter and buzzers signaling when the food is ready.
