Don't let an opportunity to lunch at the Stokehouse pass you by. During winter the open fireplace is enough to keep everyone cosy and during summer the blue skies stretch out to St Kilda Beach, reminding you why you love to dine by the sea. With a more formal restaurant upstairs and a casual bistro downstairs, this unique venue is glamorous but child-friendly (surprisingly not a contradiction in terms).
Upstairs is where the justification for Stokehouse's stellar reputation is most clear. The room pairs the building's beachside hut appeal with million-dollar mansion views, combining an appealingly informal tone with the feeling of having entered somewhere really special. This feeling is confirmed by chef Anthony Musarra's menu of fresh and crisp-as-the-sea-breeze Mediterranean food.

a great night
They have a new menu at the moment and when i asked to speak to the head chef during a quiet period, an unassuming and humble chef oliver gould came to speak to me. Each one of the dishes that we had were superb. big flavours were matched by sensational wines with the help of the sommelier.
They have just refurbished the restaurant and the noise was a little loud. Gould said they are looking at options to quieten the place.
A sensational evening of food!

Same experience
I went there on Sunday 8 March 2009, exactly the same experience. Food's just average and Waitresses were bad and rude. Never want to go back again.

Unfortunate...
My girlfriend and I had heard amazing things about The Stokehouse from friends that had been before. While the food was exceptional (especially the duck entree) it was one of those unfortunate experiences whereby the bad, arrogant waiter we had ruined our evening. We continually had to ask for drinks - and when our wine was topped up it was splashed everywhere... with no apology. Food was put down in front of us with no care and we were made to feel stupid when we enquired about the sun going down (we are from QLD and not used to daylight saving). We were both still talking about the horrible service when we left for the airport 2 days later!
