With its sweeping views of Mandjar Bay and equally extensive a la carte menu, The Stage Door Bar & Brasserie steals the limelight. Located within the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, it is hugely popular with the theatre set for pre-show drinks and dinner. However, the best seats in the house won't cost you an arm and a leg. For under $20 you can get yourself a front-row seat overlooking the water and a feast of mod-Oz flavours created by award-winning chef Paul Button. The opening scene on weekends starts at 9am with The Stage Door Big Brekkie, omelettes made to order, croissants or French toast with fresh lemon and maple syrup. The matinee menu features the drover's seared kangaroo fillet, sauteed with mushrooms, smoked bacon, pumpkin damper and bush pepper jus. And in the evening, Act I begins with a cajun chicken salad featuring Victoria double brie, pear and iceberg lettuce drizzled with a red wine and tarragon dressing. Stealing the show in Act II is the crab and cream cheese mushrooms with peach and avocado salsa. Act III brings the house down with the deliciously mild oriental chicken curry. And for the grand finale, the Stage Door fondue, chocolate and apple pudding and Violet Crumble cheesecake will leave you wishing you had room for an encore.

a lovely place for a date
My partner and I went on a lovely date in Mandurah, a scary movie followed by dinner at The Stage Door. We booked in advance and were given a lovely corner table overlooking the waterfront. we did not find it noisy. In fact we couldn't stop talking about how lovely it was on the way home. I had the veal medallions, which were absolutely beautiful. The service was fantastic, it was a happy friendly atmosphere, my partner thoroughly enjoyed his meal. We both had a few alcoholic beverages as well and we were very surprised to find an entree, two main meals and several alcoholic drinks all came to under 100!!! Something very unusual these days. We were so happy with the place, which my dad had recommended we try, that i took a group back there for my birthday, and once again not one complaint. They brought out colouring books and pens to entertain my two year-old daughter as well. I highly recommend you try it. You wont be disappointed.

Xmas dinner
We visited the Stage Door Restaurant for a xmas dinner on a Saturday night. I looked up the menu on the net that day and was quite excited by what I saw. However, the food, while quite generously portioned and plated beautifully, was a let down. The sea scallops appeared boiled rather than seared, my venison, while cooked perfectly to medium rare and well rested, was not seasoned at all and my panna cotta contained so much gelatine I could have used it as a trampoline for my kids to bounce on. That being said, the service was really very good - something that lets down most restaurants in Mandurah. The young waitress was very clear as to what the specials were.(unlike most wait staff these days she did not even need to read them from a book or board). The drinks waiter was also on the ball, only too happy to top up drinks. Even though they were obviously booked quite heavily, given the time of year, the food came out quite quickly and was at least at the correct temperature. The atmosphere at The Stage Door is great for parties and larger gatherings but because of the nature of the furnishings (metal chairs and tables with no coverings and tile floor) it was really very loud. Not somewhere you would go for a nice quiet romantic night out. Altogether our party seemed very happy with their meals (maybe I am just too fussy) and all returned home quite full and satisfied due to the portion sizes. I would have to say my wife and I would return again in the future - maybe I will try something different from the menu.
