Wow - A great place for vegetarian dining in Tasmania!!!
I wish this was my local, but alas, I live in Northern Tasmania! I am 95% vegan, so it is hard to find somewhere that can feed me something I'll be happy with. THE SPICE has an extensive vegetarian selection (although I did not enquire about the vegan point), and what I love is that the vegetarian menus are listed first - they're right there in your face, no need to go searching! Which is much closer to true Indian food than the meat-focused menus developed for the Western palate. But don't despair if you do love your meat (I'm not knocking you, vegan is simply a taste preference for me), there's heaps to choose from in those menus as well. Ditto the comment about non-oily curries. Ditto the comment about attentive service, white linen etc. The managers have certainly paid attention to detail.

food review
Visited recently with a group of six people: the food was terrible. Asked for mild curries but served extra hot. Some of the breads never arrived. Prices most expensive and a bit of a rip off. There are better value restaurants in town.

Fantastic food, you get what you pay for. Unfortunately you do have to pay corkage $5, condiments are $4 to $5 each for lime pickle etc. Two course meal for two with naan breads and BYO wine came to $80. I'll come back for their takeaway, but there are better value Indian resteraunts in Hobart.

Just visited The Spice, it was a fantastic meal - much better than all other Indian restaurants in Tas - full of flavour, extensive menu, great tandoori meats and naans and not oily! Just great food, and the staff are very pleasant. Highly recommended!
